Abby joined the Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital team in January 2022 and brings a strong academic and hands-on background in both zoology and exotic animal care. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Zoology from San Diego State University and initially planned to pursue a career as a zookeeper. Her early experience included working with rescued zoo animals such as large carnivores and bears at a sanctuary.
After graduating, she worked in a laboratory setting before transitioning fully into veterinary medicine, combining her lab experience with her passion for exotic species. She began at AEAH as a receptionist and later moved into a technical role, where she now supports patient care behind the scenes.
Professional Role & Experience
As a Veterinary Technician, Abby assists with a wide range of clinical responsibilities, including surgical support, radiographs, health certificates, and general patient care. She also enjoys grooming birds and rabbits, ensuring they remain comfortable and well-maintained.
Rabbits are her favorite species to work with, enjoying doing sanitary shaves and overall care. Her background in laboratory and exotic animal care enhances her attention to detail and commitment to high-quality patient support.

Outside the Hospital
Outside of work, Abby enjoys painting, walking animals, spending time with her pets, and doing nail art. Her lifelong love of animals extends into her home life, where she cares for a rabbit, hamster, ball python, bearded dragon, two gargoyle geckos, a cat, a dog, and a frog. While she works with a wide range of species, gorillas remain her favorite animal.
